A 55-year-old Roanoke Rapids man was stabbed to death Wednesday evening following a disturbance which took place in the parking lot of Forest Hills Shopping Center.
Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said Jerome Peters was stabbed in the upper body and he died from the injuries sustained despite efforts by police and EMS to revive him.
Tyrone Price, 49, of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with second-degree murder and was jailed on $100,000 bond with an August 5 court date.
Martin was not immediately available for further comment this morning but said in a statement police responded to the shopping center off Tenth Street shortly before 7:15 p.m. after receiving a 911 call of a disturbance and a person needing medical attention.
The officers found Peters in the parking lot unresponsive and bleeding from the upper body.
Detectives learned a fight broke out between Peters and Price inside Tight Edge, a barbershop in the shopping center. Weapons were involved in that fight but it was broken up.
Outside a second fight broke out in the parking lot and Peters was stabbed.
