The Halifax County Health Department today reported the third death related to the novel coronavirus.

Health Director Bruce Robistow declined comment on the age, gender or where in the county they were from.

The third death and the second death have not been entered into the state Department of Health and Human Services ZIP Code database.

Despite news of the third related death, the health department in its update this afternoon reported a downward trend regarding positive cases.

The department continues to advise county residents to practice frequent handwashing, social distancing and wearing a facial covering in public.

As of midnight Sunday, the health department is aware of 1,431 tests performed on residents. The breakdown is as follows:

249 positive cases; three related deaths; and 200 recoveries.

The approximate number of current cases can be calculated by subtracting the number of recoveries from the cumulative number of positive cases which have been reported since testing began.
