The latest COVID-19 report from the Halifax County Health Department continues to show an upward trend in positive cases.

In his afternoon update, health Director Bruce Robistow said, “Our percentage of positive test results is high and has climbed 0.6 percent from last week.”

He said, “This should be taken very seriously. The state of North Carolina is running at 10 percent positive and we exceed that by almost 7 percent.”

Those numbers, he said, remain “another strong indicator that we could be, and need to be, doing much better regarding our practicing the three Ws and following the executive orders.”

Asked this afternoon about upward swing, Robistow said, “In my opinion I would potentially attribute the increase in positive cases to the lifting of some restrictions, increased testing and possible decline in compliance of the three Ws. Therefore my strong recommendation is to place a strong emphasis on the three Ws moving forward.”

In its congregate living report, the state Department of Health and Human Services reported the six positive cases in Halifax County stem from staff members at SignatureHealth in Roanoke Rapids. There have been recoveries, Robistow said, but an exact number was not immediately available.

The state has not yet entered the second Halifax County COVID-19 death in its ZIP Code database.

In his update this afternoon, Robistow reported the following:

As of midnight Thursday there have been 1,424 confirmed tests performed on residents; 246 positive cases; two related deaths; 187 recoveries; and 1,161 negative results.

The approximate number of current cases can be calculated by subtracting the recoveries from the positives.
