A Halifax man was arrested Wednesday morning and faces drug charges after the vehicle he was riding in was stopped by a Halifax County Sheriff’s Office deputy for a fictitious tag.

Chief Deputy Scott Hall said in a statement Deputy Dan Bybee stopped the vehicle around 9:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of Sycamore Street in Weldon.

The passenger, Terrill Maurice Harrison, 40, got out of the vehicle and ran away. He later returned to the scene.

Deputy Phillip Moyer and his canine Tony conducted an article search in the direction where Harrison ran. Tony located two plastic bags which contained contraband. 

One of the baggies contained approximately 30 grams of marijuana valued at approximately $300. The other contained five individually wrapped rocks of crack cocaine. 

Harrison was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana, possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, and resist, obstruct, and delay a deputy during the performance of his duties.  

Harrison received a $5,000 bond and July 1 court date. 

The driver was cited for driving without a license and for operating a vehicle with fictitious registration.
