While no new positive cases of the novel coronavirus have been submitted for today, the Halifax County Public Health System is reporting an additional positive case from Saturday and four more positives from Sunday.

The updated report brings the total of positive COVID-19 cases in the county to 56.

In his update, health system Director Bruce Robistow said it remains his intention to provide a daily report, usually by 3 p.m. “As I cannot control when the reports come to me, however, and for the sake of accurately trending our positive tests, it is best that I provide the accurate dates of when the positive results were in effect. Plans to loosen any restrictions enacted will hinge on an accurate trend line and this is the process that will ensure that accuracy.”

The health system is now aware of 312 tests being performed.

Out of those tests, he reported the 56 positive cases; one related death and 26 recoveries.

There are currently nine test results pending and 247 negative test results.

“Continued vigilance and extreme compliance with all orders and recommendations is absolutely critical,” he said.

As of its last report this morning, the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services reported statewide there are 9,142 confirmed cases; 306 deaths; 109,920 completed tests; and 473 people hospitalized.

The novel coronavirus has been found in 95 of the state’s 100 counties. The five counties with no confirmed cases are Hyde, Avery, Yancey, Swain and Graham.
