The victim in a Sunday night shooting remains was listed in critical condition this morning and the Halifax County Sheriff’s has issued warrants for the arrest of a Roanoke Rapids man in the case.
Detective Matt Brown said this afternoon the man the sheriff’s office is looking for — 42-year-old Leo Daniel Short — is known to frequent the area of Roanoke Rapids known as the Lincoln Heights community.
Brown said it is believed Short and the victim knew each other.
In a statement, Chief Deputy Scott Hall said around 7:30 p.m.,deputies and investigators responded to a residence on Davie Smith Street in Roanoke Rapids about a person who had been shot.
Investigators learned the victim had been shot numerous times and was transported to a trauma medical center for gunshot wounds to the torso.
Hall said the shooting is the result of an argument and fight earlier.
Continued investigation by Brown led to a warrant for arrest being issued on Short for assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
