Roanoke Valley law enforcement reported the following arrests:

Garysburg Police Department

Chief Melvin Garner said on Friday around 9:30 a.m., he stopped a man later identified as Demarcus Thomas, 35, of Greensboro, for speeding on Highway 46.

Garner learned Thomas was driving while his license was revoked.

Further investigation led Garner to ask for assistance from Northampton County Sheriff’s Office Drug Agent Michael Sledge and Deputy George Reed as well as Halifax County Sheriff’s Office narcotics division dog Tony.

Tony alerted on narcotics inside the vehicle.

Garner located narcotics and seized 1.7 ounces of marijuana along with drug paraphernalia and cash.

Thomas was cited with a uniform citation for speeding and driving while license revoked and arrested and charged with felony possession with intent to sell/deliver marijuana, felony maintaining a vehicle/dwelling for a controlled substance, felony possession of marijuana, and misdemeanor drug paraphernalia.

He was jailed on $8,500 secured bond with an October 18 court date.

Garner said he was appreciative of agents from Northampton and Halifax for their assistance and further charges could be pending once evidence is received back from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab.

Halifax County Sheriff’s Office

Chief Deputy Scott Hall said on April 20 deputies responded to a residence off Highway 301 in Halifax regarding a break-in and larceny.

Investigation by Detective R.B. Biggerstaff led to warrants taken out on Calvin Robinson, 24, of Halifax.

Robinson was arrested on September 30 while in Vermont and extradited to Halifax County Friday.

Robinson received a $30,000 bond and a first appearance October 29.

Robinson was charged with break and entering, larceny after break and entering, possession of stolen goods, injury to real property and injury to personal property.

Through the investigation, the stolen property was recovered and returned to the owners.
