A call from Halifax Regional Medical Center staff Monday has led the Roanoke Police Department to begin a shooting probe.
Captain Andy Jackson said the police department received the call around 5 p.m. and discovered a 23-year-old male victim had been shot in the back of his right arm with a small caliber handgun.
The shooting occurred in the 300 block of Madison Street. The man told investigators he was approached by a group of people described as three black males. When he turned around to look he heard a loud sound and realized he had been shot.
Someone in the group made a reference like, “look at the guy in the khakis,” and the victim continued walking before the shot was fired, Jackson said.
A family member transported the victim to the hospital, which notified police.
Interviews in the neighborhood provided no leads, people saying they heard the shot but didn't see anything.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
