All but the Enfield District A election results were certified Tuesday by the Halifax County Board of Elections.
County elections Director Kristen Scott said the board received seven protests about that election in which incumbent Bud Whitaker defeated challenger Angela Harper, collecting slightly more than 70 percent of the votes last Tuesday.
Scott said the protests included complaints of the behavior of candidates and the poll workers.
A hearing is scheduled Friday at 10 a.m. to go over the complaints.
Scott said it doesn't appear the protests will affect the results of that election.
Meanwhile, in the town of Halifax race, where incumbent John White won a town board seat and was also elected mayor through write-in ballots, Scott said it will be up to White to decide whether he takes the mayor's position or remains a commissioner.
If White takes the mayor's office then the town board would appoint a replacement. The same would happen if he chose the town board seat and a mayor would have to be appointed.
No decision has been made but in a message to rrspin.com last week, White said,
“We have been in contact with the UNC Institute of Government, and we will do what we all hope is best for the town. There are a couple of scenarios that could happen, and we will consider everything, and try to do the right thing.”
White said, “I do appreciate the support from the town, and we will try to uphold the honor of the town. Halifax is the best town in this county, and it is my goal to make sure it stays that way. We will get there, and I will do all I can to help.”
