Patrick Brian Pinkney, a former East Carolina University standout quarterback, faces eight counts of larceny by employee from when he was assistant manager at Belk in Roanoke Rapids.

Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department confirmed the man who turned himself in today was indeed Pinkney, who led the Pirates to back-to-back bowl appearances and a Conference USA title in 2008.

Pinkney, 25, was released on $4,500 unsecured bond and has a December 14 court date.

The charges stem from an investigation by Detective Jeff Baggett after the store in Premier Landing reported money missing on September 21.

Investigation showed that between February and September, $4,198.50 was stolen from the safe. The charges reflect that money was taken eight times during the time period of the investigation.

Pinkney, who lives in Fayetteville, has apparently been playing arena football there.

Pinkney left Belk in September.
