Jimmie Lee Mason II continues to elude law enforcement and the Halifax County Sheriff's Office continues to look for him.
“We're still actively looking for him and still asking that anybody who knows where he is to contact the Halifax County Sheriff's Office or Crimestoppers,” Lieutenant Bobby Martin said Thursday.
Asked if Mason's flight from law enforcement is a sign he is guilty in the murders of Tyrone “Tomcat” Davis and his girlfriend Jenilee A. Foster, Martin posed his reply in the form of a question. “Most of the time if somebody runs this long, if you absolutely didn't do anything and you're in the newspaper for this horrific act, if you know you didn't do it, what would you do? Run and turn yourself in and prove your innocence.”
Martin said, however, “I feel in this case because we already have someone in custody and a good, close friend, he is avoiding his arrest because he knows the truth, he knows he's done something. There are certain things people do that are a sign of guilt, fleeing, lying, all kinds of variables.”
Running, Martin said, is also often a sign you're scared. “It doesn't help your case. I would face my accusers and tell them to prove it.”
Martin declined comment on whether investigators are looking at federal prison visitor logs for Mason's father, who is in custody after several years of fleeing, for clues to his son's whereabouts.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444 or local law enforcement.
