A disaster recovery center will open in Halifax County but a date and time has not been set.

While the county waits for a specific time and date individuals needing assistance should call the Federal Emergency Management Agency's hotline at 1-800-621-3362 or go to www.disasterassistance.gov

Assistant County Manager for Operations Dia Denton said applying now over the hotline or Internet may result in quicker assistance than waiting for the center to open.

FEMA assistance is primarily for damage to home and property. Those needing emergency food assistance will have to apply through the Department of Social Services.
