Monday night’s town board meeting in Enfield turned out to be more than the usual meeting. With the town meeting going as usual, all items on the agenda were covered. Two items were added at the end of the meeting.

The first item added to the agenda was that three people had turned in their resignations. Bobby Davis, Town Administrator for the Town of Enfield announced his retirement effective August 15, 2011. Two other resignations were that of, Angela Barner, the town Financial Officer and Councilman Larry Sorie of Ward B who also resigned.

This will propose a dilemma for the town as the two employee positions will have to be filled immediately. Davis’ resignation becomes effective August 15 and Barner’s is immediately. To further complicate matters, town citizens present at the board meeting demanded to know the reasons for these resignations and showed their concern of not being properly represented at board meetings.

Kris Gardner, Attorney for the town, stated that according to the town charter the board must appoint an individual to fill the vacant seat. Gardner pointed out that the individual will only fill this position until the end of Sorie’s term, which ends in November of this year. If an individual desires to fill the vacant seat on the Town Board, they have until August 15, 2011 to file with the Board of Elections.

At press time, the only known resignation was that of Town Administrator Bobby Davis as he is retiring. The reasons for the other resignations were unknown. The Mayor, promised the concerned citizens that the board would look into the resignations.

Senator Ed Jones who was also present at the meeting, wanted to know the reason for these resignations.

Jones continued to express that the town should have an excite interview, so that this will not happen again.

The position on the town board held by Councilman Sorie is to be filled by appointment by the board to someone who is a resident of Ward B and who has applied for the position. This has necessitated an emergency Town Board meeting to be held on July 25th at 5:30 pm. The board will meet to consider this vacancy. Anyone interested in the position should submit a written statement of interest to Town Hall by 12:00 noon on July 25,2011.

Monday's Board Meeting closed with the board going into a closed session to discuss the resignations. Further information will be provided to the public as it becomes available.
