The pair, Garee Cordell Carr and Antonia Lamont Baker, had allegedly stacked items at the backdoor of the house before they apparently fled after hearing patrol car sirens. They were caught on Charlotte Street with other items allegedly taken from the house, Captain Andy Jackson of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said.

Police responded to a 911 call around 1 p.m. that a breaking and entering was in progress and the officers caught the men in the back alley of Charlotte Street.

Officers recovered a debit card taken from the house as well as electronics. Further investigation, Jackson said, showed the men allegedly stacked items like a television and more electronics at the door and were allegedly going to take them to a car that was parked on Charlotte Street.

Carr, 23, of Emporia and formerly of Roanoke Rapids, was charged with breaking and entering, larceny, possession of stolen goods and possession of burglary tools, which was a pairing knife.

On those charges he received a $20,000 bond and August 17 court. An additional bond of $2,000 was given to him after he was served an order for arrest for driving while license revoked and hit and run.

Parker, 29, of Roanoke Rapids, who is acquainted with Car, faces charges of breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was given a $20,000 bond and has the same court date as Carr.

What the caller did, Jackson said, demonstrates the idea of community policing. “You don't have to leave your name to point us in the right direction.”

With a debit card stolen in the break-in, Jackson said the caller, “Saved this person a lot of heartache.”

Officers Roy Ball, Jason Williams and Chris Biggerstaff and Detective Frankie Griffin responded to the call.
