The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to interim Chief Bobby Martin:

Saturday shortly before 10:30 p.m., Officer D. Newsome was patrolling the area of Highway 158 when he noticed a vehicle travelling with no lights. 

The driver did not have a valid license. 

Master Officer M. Hunsucker and his dog Dubai arrived and assisted. 

Hunsucker checked the outside of the vehicle with Dubai. The canine gave a positive alert of the possible presence of narcotics.

Newsome located a jar in the center console containing marijuana, a digital scale, rolling papers, and Cigarillos. 

Arturo Ortiz, 23, of Littleton, was cited for simple possession of marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia, and no operator’s license.

He received an August 12 court date.

 

Sunday shortly after 6:15 p.m., officers responded to a fight call at Brookwood Motel.

Officers were notified a vehicle was leaving the scene with participants of the fight. 

Officer C. Hagbourne stopped the vehicle. 

One occupant had blood on her face but did not seek medical attention.

Hagbourne learned the owner of the car did not give the two women permission to drive it and allowed officers to check. 

An open container of alcohol was discovered and the passenger was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. 

The passenger was arrested and identified as Megan Edmondson 32, from the Roanoke Rapids area. 

Edmondson was charged with possession of marijuana and two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, She received a $1,500 bond with a July 22 court date.

Master Officer J. Spragins and Officer C. Batchelor assisted.  

 

Monday shortly before 11:30 a.m., PACE Team members talked with two occupants of a residence in the 1100 block of Jefferson Street after receiving numerous complaints of drug activity.

Officers Brandon Council and Joe DeSare encountered several juveniles and two adults in the home. 

The officers noticed the smell of marijuana and a juvenile holding a pill bottle with a $20 bill with marijuana in it. 

Officers secured the home and occupants. They applied for a search warrant to investigate further.

Marijuana and paraphernalia was located.

Sherry Carpenter, 59, from Roanoke Rapids, was arrested and charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. 

A juvenile was charged with possession of schedule VI, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. 

Carpenter received a $1,500 bond and August 22 court date. The juvenile received a $1,000 bond and the same court date as Carpenter.

Juvenile petitions will be obtained for two more children for possession of schedule VI and marijuana paraphernalia.

“The Roanoke Rapids Police Department encourages citizens to say something if you see something,” Martin said in a statement. “The citizens and the police department working together can make a difference in the community.”
