A Roanoke Rapids man was charged Saturday with assault by pointing a gun during a juvenile's birthday party which got out of hand.

Lieutenant Chuck Hasty of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said deputies were called to Sunset Crest Lane on a disturbance call involving weapons.

Deputies Hebert Williams, C.E. Carroll, Stanley Rodwell and Detective J. Puhak arrived and began an investigation, learning that during a party for a juvenile an argument broke out that lead to a fight between guests at the party.

Hasty told rrspin.com this morning the man arrested, James Edward Arnold used a pistol grip shotgun to hit the victim in the head during the fight.

The victim was not seriously injured.

Puhak arrested Arnold, 38, and also charged him with assault inflicting serious injury. The nature of the argument was not known.

Arnold was jailed on $4,000 and has a June 29 court date.
