Law enforcement and first responders from across the Roanoke Valley continue to search for a missing man in the area of the Gaston bridge on Highway 48.

Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said boats have been put in the Roanoke River as another means to search for the 49-year-old Roanoke Rapids area man.

He left for work early this morning and was last seen safe at his residence in the 1400 block of Sam Powell Dairy Road.

Continued investigation led authorities to find his pickup in the area of the Gaston bridge near WestRock.

He is described as a black male who was wearing dark clothing when he was last seen.

Numerous agencies are currently involved in the search for the man, including North Carolina Wildlife; Roanoke Rapids Police Department; Northampton County Sheriff’s Office; North Carolina Forest Service; North Carolina Department of Public Safety; Roanoke Rapids public works; Halifax County Emergency Management; Gaston Fire and Rescue and Weldon Fire Department.

As of this report Hall said the sheriff’s office was requesting the use of sonar from Roanoke Valley Rescue.
