A 63-year-old Roanoke Rapids man has been charged in a Friday shooting where the victim walked to Burger King to report the crime.

Eric Hyman was arrested Saturday morning shortly after 12:30, interim Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin said in a statement.

His arrest came after Officer Ryan Cross responded to the 900 block of Cedar Street upon receiving a report a suspect had been identified.

Hyman was carried before a magistrate where he was served with a warrant for assault with a deadly weapon and placed under a $5,000 bond. He has a July 3 court date.

Martin said this afternoon it was not immediately clear what prompted the shooting, which left the victim with an injured foot. He said it was possible the two had a disagreement which led to the shooting.

The victim and Hyman are familiar with each other.

At the time of the initial investigation it was not clear where the shooting occurred. Martin said upon further investigation officers determined it occurred in the 900 block of Cedar Street.
