The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office reported the following, according to Major Anzell Harris:

Drugs discovered during stop

A saturation patrol in the area of Highway 125 near I-95 Wednesday afternoon led to the seizure of drugs — which had been kicked into a grassy area — and the arrest of a 46-year-old Roanoke Rapids man.

Genoris Davis remained in the Halifax County Detention Center this afternoon and faces charges of:

Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon

Two counts of possession of Schedule II

Possession of Schedule I

Maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances

Altering/stealing/destroying criminal evidence

Two counts of possession with intent to sell and distribute cocaine

Carrying a concealed gun

Expired registration

Driving while license revoked

Harris said the HCSO Community Action Team and the Drug and Gang Task Force were conducting a saturation patrol in the Roanoke Rapids area when CAT Sergeant G. Martin stopped Davis for a violation.

CAT Sergeant D. Harrison deployed his canine partner, Loki, to conduct an open-air sniff of the vehicle. Loki gave a positive alert for the presence of narcotics. During the search, a handgun was found concealed under the driver’s seat.

While being searched, Harris said Davis allegedly threw a clear plastic bag containing a white substance on the ground and attempted to kick it into a grassy area. Deputies located approximately 17.5 grams of crack cocaine, 5.5 grams of powder cocaine, and seven dosage units of oxycodone.

Davis received no bond for the gun charge and a $55,000 bond for the remaining charges. He has an April 22 district court date.

According to court records, Davis had been previously convicted of trafficking cocaine in Punta Gorda, Florida, in August 2007 and was sentenced to 71 months.
