Roanoke Rapids Graded School District students have recently received honors, including the SECU People Helping People Scholarship and acceptance into the North Carolina Governor’s School.
Two Roanoke Rapids Graded School District seniors — Colby Bobbitt and Ashleigh Moseley — received $10,000 each from the State Employees Credit Union as part of the People Helping People Scholarship program.
Josiah Ausby, a junior at Roanoke Rapids Early College High School, will attend Governor’s School East and study natural science and Lizeth Enriquez Hernandez, a junior at RRHS, will attend Governor’s West and will focus on social science.
SECU Foundation
Established by the SECU Foundation, the four-year scholarship program helps North Carolina public high school students attend college. Each of the state’s 115 school districts receives at least one scholarship valued at $10,000, payable at $1,250 per semester for up to eight consecutive semesters for a senior attending one of the 16 constituent campuses of the University of North Carolina System.
The awards are based on scholastic achievement, demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement.
Bobbit plans to attend North Carolina State University this fall, where he has also been admitted into the engineering program, and intends to pursue a degree in computer science.
Moseley plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where she will major in sociology.
Governor’s school
Ausby will attend Governor’s East at Meredith College and Hernandez will attend Governor’s School West at Greensboro College.
The Governor’s School session will be held from June 21 through July 18, providing these students with an opportunity to engage in advanced, interdisciplinary learning alongside peers from across North Carolina.
“These accomplishments reflect the hard work, dedication, and potential of our students,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. Tom Daly. “We are incredibly proud of each of them and look forward to seeing the impact they will continue to make in the future.Congratulations to these exceptional Yellow Jackets for representing RRGSD with excellence both in and beyond the classroom.”
