A Roanoke Rapids man faces domestic-related charges after allegedly assaulting and shooting toward his girlfriend Thursday evening, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Antonio Hudson, 48, remained in the Halifax County Detention Center this morning. He faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, assault on a female, misdemeanor domestic violence, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Major Anzell Harris said deputies responded to a shooting call in the 3000 block of Highway 158 around 7:30 p.m.

Deputies learned that Hudson was allegedly involved in an argument with the victim that turned physical and escalated when he brandished a handgun and fired a shot toward her, Harris said in a statement. The victim initially believed she had been shot.

Lieutenant P. Rackley located Hudson a few blocks away from the scene. Hudson was taken into custody and transported to the sheriff’s office. A search of the area was conducted for the firearm, but it was not located.

Deputy D. Bybee lodged the charges against Hudson, who is scheduled for a May 28 District Court date.

The warrant says Hudson allegedly hit the victim, threw her against a car, and fired the weapon in her direction.

Court records show Hudson was convicted of common law robbery in 2004 following a 2003 arrest. He pleaded guilty in Halifax County Superior Court and received a sentence of up to one year and four months.

Community Action Team Sergeant G. Martin, Corporal M. Kalkbrenner, and Sergeant N. Estes, along with canine deputy Rocko, assisted.
