A Weldon man is recovering after he was shot last month and his girlfriend was charged in the case, according to the Weldon Police Department.
Chief Christopher Davis said that Latoya Elaine Kelly, 32, of Weldon, was arrested and charged Tuesday with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious bodily injury.
Her arrest warrant says she used a purple Ruger semiautomatic handgun to allegedly assault and harm her boyfriend.

She is being held in the Halifax County Detention Center without the opportunity for bond due to the domestic nature of the case, Davis said.
She is scheduled for a district court appearance Monday.
Davis said investigators have learned the shooting actually occurred in the 700 block of Elm Street and that the victim had been dropped off near the police department to get medical aid.
Davis reported last month that officers received a call around 8 a.m. near the police station.
“This was a group effort investigating this case, which helped in the arrest of the accused,” Davis said. “I would like to thank everyone that helped us out at the crime scene and all that had something to do with this case.”
