Northampton County’s economic development team was awarded a $1.5 million grant by the North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority for infrastructure expansion at the Northampton County Commerce Park.

The NCCP, a 300-acre industrial site adjacent to I-95 in Garysburg, is a county-driven initiative to attract capital investment, nurture job growth, and encourage community development.

Economic Development Director Derrick Bennett said, “We recently had a big win for the infrastructure expansion project with our current grant funding, but that money would only encompass part of the work required. To close the gap, the NC Commerce’s Rural Infrastructure Authority immediately stepped in.”

According to Bennett, the NCCP is a key component to paving the roadway for industrial development. “Major companies are hungry for prime property near the interstate, which Northampton County has, but our ability to attract new businesses and grow our community hinges on meeting those end-user’s infrastructure needs.”

The North Carolina Department of Commerce’s mission is to improve the economic well-being and quality of life for all North Carolinians.

Their Rural Infrastructure Program provides grants to local governments to assist with public infrastructure projects that will lead to the direct creation of new, full-time, private-sector jobs. The Economic Development team looks forward to using these grant funds to help catapult Northampton County forward. “We are proud of the work that we have accomplished over the past year and look forward to more announcements.”

Additional information on the project will be provided upon acceptance and execution of the grant.
