An Enfield man remains in the Halifax County Detention Center as of this report following his arrest on cocaine counts Tuesday.

Warrants filed in eCourts do not show the quantity of cocaine seized following the stop of Renaldo Payton, 46.

Community Action Team Sergeant G. Martin stopped Payton while patrolling within the town limits of Enfield, according to Major Anzell Harris of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Payton was operating a vehicle with a suspended license, for which he was issued a written warning.

Following a consent search of the vehicle, Martin located a bag containing crack cocaine.

Payton was arrested and charged with felony possession of cocaine, felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Payton received a September 25 district court date and was jailed without the opportunity for bond due to a 2024 common law robbery charge filed by the Enfield Police Department.
