A Roanoke Rapids man stopped for a violation Tuesday evening was found in possession of a handgun with a conversion device on it, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Se’juan Pitt, 27, was stopped shortly before 5 p.m. by Corporal J. Velez as Community Action Team sergeants G. Martin and D. Harrison were conducting saturation patrols in Roanoke Rapids.

Velez made the stop on Highway 158 at Hales Branch Road.
Major Anzell Harris said a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and a black handgun with a switch was located under the driver’s seat. A switch is a small conversion device that can be attached to a handgun converting it into a fully automatic machine gun.

A check of the firearm revealed it was reported stolen in September 2023 and had been entered into NCIC by the Hampton Police Department.
Pitt was cited with a North Carolina Uniform Citation for driving while license revoked and was arrested and charged with possession of firearm by a felon, possession of stolen firearm, possess a weapon of mass destruction, carrying a concealed gun, possess marijuana up to one-half ounce, and a window tint violation.
Pitt was released from custody and also waived counsel, according to eCourts records.
