This year’s Grandparents Day recognition event at the Center for Energy Education will focus on computer literacy.

C4EE will host a free workshop outlining the fundamentals of computer use for home and the workplace on Monday, September 8 from noon to 2 p.m. at 460 Airport Road in Roanoke Rapids. The event is free and open to the public.

C4EE welcomes area grandparents and senior community members to its free Tech Savvy Seniors: Mastering the Digital World! workshop which will introduce attendees to computers and the internet as well as how to safely and efficiently use computer and mobile devices.

C4EE Youth Outreach Manager Whitley Jones will lead technology instruction in the session. She will provide the class with an overview of navigating email, websites and as well as tablet and cell phone apps. Lessons will demonstrate to participants smart ways to virtually connect with friends and family or conduct business online, sharing tips and tricks to use QR codes and recognize online scams.

“This workshop will inform and encourage our community to become confident online users,” said Mozine Lowe, executive director of C4EE. “This knowledge bridges technology gaps so they can enjoy the safety, health, communication and entertainment enhancements these technology tools provide.”
