Food Lion Feeds Friday will donate fresh produce to residents in Enfield.
Food Lion said more than 400 families are expected to receive grocery bags with fruits and vegetables to help restock pantries and refrigerators.
(The Food Lion truck will arrive at 407 South McDaniel Street around 1:30 p.m. and volunteers will begin packing grocery bags afterward. At 4 p.m. the distribution will begin)
The donation effort comes in the aftermath of a recent power outage caused by a power grid being struck by lightning. “Many residents are struggling to refill their pantries and refrigerators,” Food Lion said. “As local feeding partners are seeing an increase in need, Food Lion Feeds, Food Lion’s hunger-relief platform, is donating fresh produce for more than 400 local families. Each family will receive a grocery bag filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, including oranges, apples, potatoes, carrots, peppers, onions and lettuce.”
This donation follows Food Lion Feeds initial donation of pallets of water and more than $3,000 in gift cards to residents and food pantries last week.
Food Lion Feeds was founded in 2014 by Food Lion to address food insecurity in the towns and cities it serves.
