A Pleasant Hill man was charged after he threw a firearm down a ravine in the Weldon area Friday afternoon.
Dexter Terry, 39, posted bond on Sunday, according to eCourts records and was no longer listed in Halifax County Detention Center records.
Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Major Anzell Harris said that around 1 p.m. Deputy R. Lafayette conducted a vehicle stop on Highway 301 near Dogwood Drive for an equipment violation.
Probable cause was obtained to search the vehicle. Terry was asked out of the vehicle and while doing so, Harris said Lafayette observed him throw a firearm down a steep ravine.
Terry was detained and additional units were requested to search for the firearm.
Terry has multiple felony convictions to include possession of a firearm by felon and fleeing to elude arrest, Harris said.
With assistance from the Weldon Fire Department and Sergeant A. Wood, the firearm was located.
Terry was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm by felon, carrying a concealed gun, resisting a public officer, and a license plate frame violation.
He has a July 24 district court date.
Weldon police assisted.
