Roanoke Valley law enforcement reported the following:
Madison Street shooting
Roanoke Rapids police are investigating a shooting which occurred shortly after 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Madison Street.
A 26-year-old male victim remains in critical condition after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body, Lieutenant Morgan Worrell said.
There are currently no physical descriptions of possible suspects, she said.
Officers learned the victim was inside a residence when someone approached on foot and fired inside the house. The shooter did not enter the residence, Worrell said.
The victim was initially transported to ECU North and then transferred to another facility for treatment.
Residents in the area are encouraged to view any security camera footage from that time and report any suspicious activity to law enforcement.

Stolen gun, marijuana
On Saturday shortly after 1 a.m., Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Deputy R. Lafayette conducted a vehicle stop for a violation in the area of Sam Powell Dairy and Zoo roads.
Major Anzell Harris said after a probable cause search, Jovan Fleming, 29, was found in possession of marijuana and a loaded firearm that had been entered as stolen in 2014 by the Chesapeake Police Department.
He was arrested and charged with possession of a stolen gun, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana, no operator's license and an unsafe movement violation.
He has a July 25 district court date.
