Two Littleton men, one awaiting disposition in a first-degree murder case and the other who served time for second-degree murder, face cocaine trafficking counts following a stop by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Monday evening.
Major Anzell Harris said Corporal J. Velez was patrolling in the area of Highway 158 near Faulcon Road around 7 p.m. when he observed Elvin Alston, 37, operating a vehicle without a license. Halifax Emergency Communications also confirmed that Alston had an outstanding order for arrest.
He had been sentenced to seven years and 10 months for an offense that occurred in 2011, according to the state Department of Public Safety and was released in June of 2019. His parole was terminated in March of 2020.

During the search of the vehicle, a trafficking amount of cocaine and marijuana was located.
Alston was arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and felony maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances. Alston was also cited with a North Carolina Uniform Citation for no operator’s license, open container violation and failure to maintain lane control.
The passenger, Michael Delane Gilchrist, 36 was arrested and charged with trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance.
Gilchrist is out on bond for an August 2022 murder that happened in the town of Littleton. That case was continued in April, according to eCourts records.
Alston received a $50,000 secured bond for the narcotics charges and an additional $10,000 secured bond related to the outstanding order for arrest from Granville County.
Gilchrist received a $50,000 secured bond with a Friday district court date.
Neither men were listed in detention center records as of this report.
