On Saturday, June 7, Downtown Enfield Restoration & Preservation will sponsor the Annual Fishing Creek Paddle.
Registration for the Fishing Creek Paddle begins at 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. at Bellamy Mill.
“Fishing Creek is one of Halifax County’s secret treasures,” DERP said.”Not only does the creek have a quiet beauty of its own, but it also has a rich history and prehistory.”
Shark teeth have been found near the creek and many collectors still possess examples of these massive teeth from prehistoric times.
Fishing Creek is also cited as a location where Cornwallis’s army fought skirmishes with militiamen during the Revolutionary period.
The creek, which twists and turns as it makes its way south to the Tar River, is easily navigated by both beginner and advanced kayakers.
Tickets for the Paddle can be purchased at this link
Refreshments will be served during registration.
Paddlers will then shove off at 9 a.m. and float with kayaks and canoes for 2 ½ hours. Kayaks and canoes are no longer available to rent, so you must bring your own.
After the paddle, as in years past, there will be lunch, entertainment and a complimentary gift.
