For the Center for Energy Education, STEAM means science, technology, education, agriculture and math.

To educate and demonstrate to its community about clean energy, C4EE will host summer camps for Halifax and Northampton County youth.

In its pursuit to foster youth development and promote continuous learning, C4EE’s STEAM Education Manager Jasmin Carter attended North Carolina’s Science for All Summit on March 3 and 4.

Standout session Rooted in Wellness: Cultivating Native Plants for Health, Culture, and STEM Education in Communities inspired C4EE’s 2025 renewable energy summer camp theme Watts Up, STEAM?

C4EE will host rising sixth through 12th graders for no-cost, four-day summer camp sessions. Halifax County youth are invited to attend July 7-10 or July 14-17 held on the center’s campus at 460 Airport Road, Roanoke Rapids.

Northampton County students are invited to attend camp June 23- 27 at Gaston STEM Leadership Academy, 400 Broughton Street, Gaston.

The camps run Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily.

Carter will incorporate the education summit’s information and resources, including professional presenters, for C4EE’s fun, engaging, hands-on curriculum and activities for middle school students.

Robotics and greenhouse gas molecule lessons are in the works, using materials developed by summit presenters Rich Gilliam, founder of STEM PLUG, (Richnovated) as well as BrainSTEMology founder Alexander Flowers.

C4EE staff and local teachers will also execute indoor and outdoor daily programming, lessons and activities about solar energy, agriculture and ways renewable energy offers impactful, sustainable solutions toward strong and healthy communities. Each day will encourage and support physical activity efforts.

Community partners and special guests will also enhance the camp experience for participants. Planning is underway; visit C4EE’s website for details.
