Halifax County Schools announced gains in student achievement and the graduation rate in conjunction with the release of the state’s ABCs Accountability report approved earlier in the day by the NC Board of Education.
A deputy answering one call on Walston Street Friday made a drug arrest after he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from a house across the street from the original call.
When Deputy J.M. Clark went to investigate he discovered powdered cocaine and marijuana at the house, according to Sergeant Randy Keeton of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Clark charged Marvin Lewis Peters of Roanoke Rapids for felony possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was jailed on $5,000 bond and has an August 25 court date.
Halifax County Manager Tony Brown says attorneys are working on an agreement with Weldon schools.
