Halifax County announced that Thomas Everett has been selected to serve as the assistant county manager after what the county described as a thorough recruitment and interview process.

His first day in this new role will be Monday.

“I am deeply honored and grateful for the opportunity to serve as the new assistant county manager,” he said. “I want to express my sincere appreciation to Halifax County for entrusting me with this important role.”

Everett said, “I look forward to working closely with county staff, elected officials, and community partners to address the challenges and opportunities facing our county. Collaboration and teamwork will be essential, as we strive to achieve our shared goals.”

Everett’s local government experience has included service as the town administrator for both the towns of Scotland Neck — his most recent position — and Whitakers.

Prior to his work in local government, he worked as a unit administrator for the Department of Defense, an accountant with a Charlotte-based event and catering company, an admissions counselor and recruiter for Voorhees College, and a healthcare administrator — first lieutenant, human resource specialist for the United States Army.

Everett’s education includes an MBA from Claflin University and a bachelor of science in business economics from South Carolina State University.

Both schools are located in Orangeburg.

He is a member of the Delta Mu Delta Business Honor Society and the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity as well as the NC Government Finance Officer Association.

“I’m excited for Thomas to join Halifax County and become part of the management team. His experience and background will be an asset to the county, especially having local knowledge coming from the town of Scotland Neck,” said County Manager Dia Denton. “I enjoyed working with Thomas in his capacity as town administrator there, and I am looking forward to working with him full-time on county projects and services.”

Originally from Edgecombe County, Everett currently resides in Rocky Mount where he is a board member for the city of Rocky Mount Martin Luther King Jr. Commission.
