Halifax County government announced that William Flynn has been selected to serve as the new chief building inspector and assumed this role today.

Co-located in the same office as Planning and Environmental Health, Building Inspections will now function as a separate department with Flynn at the helm.

“I am very excited to start this next chapter in my life with Halifax County,” said Flynn, “and I look forward to building and growing a successful inspections department that will effectively serve the community, as well as Halifax County.”

Flynn, originally from Edenton, has been a resident of Conway since 1983.

Flynn received his associate’s degree in architectural technology from Roanoke-Chowan Community College and has 24 years of combined experience with zoning, subdivision development and building inspections with Northampton County.

His prior experience includes work as an engineering technician with Kerr Plastics in Ahoskie, a custom home designer with Scarborough Designs in Shallotte, and operating his own residential drafting business.

“Mr. Flynn comes to Halifax County with extensive experience and credentials to serve as the chief building inspector,” said County Manager Dia Denton. “I am excited to have him on board to join our talented and dedicated team of department heads.”

Flynn is the son of the late Errol Flynn and Lorean Wright, who were originally from Edenton. His stepmother Rebecca Flynn still resides in Conway.

Flynn has been married to wife Nicole since 1995, and together they have a 19-year-old daughter who is training to be an aviation mechanic.
