The Choanoke Area Housing Consortium announced that the Draft 2023-2027 Consolidated Plan and 2023 Annual Action Plan setting goals to address affordable housing needs are available until May 11 for review.

The plans can be viewed online via the websites for Bertie, Halifax, Hertford, Martin, and Northampton counties, the CADA website, in-person in county administrative offices or CADA offices.

The Choanoke Area Housing Consortium consists of the five counties in the CADA service area – Bertie, Halifax, Hertford, Martin and Northampton, and 38 of the 39 municipalities contained therein.

The consortium is a planning group working to address affordable housing needs in the region and will be managing HUD HOME Program funding for affordable housing projects around the region.

The consortium conducted a Housing Needs Assessment of the region, received input via community surveys, and hosted Community Input Sessions, and that data was compiled to draft the Plans.

In Halifax County, the plans are available for review online at the county website and in-person at the front desk of the Halifax County Administrative Offices in the historic courthouse, located at 10 N. King Street, Halifax.

Comments are welcomed to share ideas about housing goals and plans in the region, counties, and municipalities.

A public hearing will be held at the Halifax County Board of Commissioners meeting on Monday, May 1, at 9:30 a.m. for any citizens who wish to appear and offer their feedback.
