Chris Williams has been selected as the new Halifax County public utilities director and will assume this role Tuesday.

Former Public Utilities Director Greg Griffin retired at the end of August after over eight years of service to the county and a total of 30 years of public service.

A thorough recruitment and interview process was conducted to find his replacement.

Williams holds a bachelor’s degree in environmental science from UNC-Wilmington.

Most recently, he was employed as an environmental engineer with WestRock in Roanoke Rapids.

Williams was previously employed with Halifax County as an environmental health specialist with the health department and later as a county planner and zoning administrator with the planning and development department.

“I really look forward to returning to work with the county,” said Williams. “I am excited about the recent growth in Halifax County and want to be a part of continuing to meet the needs of the residents we serve.”

County Manager Dia Denton said, “Chris comes to Halifax County highly qualified to serve in this position. He already holds most of the certifications needed and has previous Halifax County government experience. I am excited for him to join our talented team of department heads.”

Williams currently resides in Halifax County with his wife Shelley and two sons Connor and Sawyer.
