City prepared for Florence

The city has already taken steps in the wake of Hurricane Florence, Roanoke Rapids City Manager Joseph Scherer said at a press briefing today.

The city will enact a curfew beginning Thursday as well as restrictions on alcohol sales.

Despite a southward shift of Hurricane Florence, the National Weather Service says prolonged rain and freshwater flooding is still expected across much of the area.

Halifax County has declared a State of Emergency that will go into effect at 6 this evening.

Northampton County will open emergency shelters at 6 p.m. Wednesday.

The National Weather Service reported in its morning briefing confidence continues to increase life-threatening impacts will be felt across the Carolinas with the arrival of Hurricane Florence.
