NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING
Roanoke Rapids City Council
Notice is hereby given that the Roanoke Rapids City Council will hold a public hearing at a meeting to be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at 5:15 p.m. at the Lloyd Andrews City Meeting Hall at 700 Jackson Street, Roanoke Rapids regarding the following item:
A rezoning request from Mack Gay Associates, P.A. (applicant and agent for property owner, Roman Catholic Diocese of Raleigh) to rezone Halifax County Tax Parcel 1205051 (a 10.04± acre property) from R-40 Residential to B-4 Commercial District. The property requested for rezoning is located adjacent to the eastern right-of-way of NC Highway 125 having approximately 482.51 feet of road frontage and adjacent to the north of Dickens Farm Road (private road) having approximately 884.13 feet of road frontage. The property is undeveloped and used for small scale agricultural production. The requested B-4 Commercial District allows the widest range of commercial land uses. As a result of public input, a less intense district may be considered for approval. The City Council may make a final decision on or soon after the April 5, 2016 public hearing.
Any resident or property owner in the City’s zoning jurisdiction may submit written statements concerning this matter. Please include your name and address on all written statements and submit to City Clerk Lisa Vincent at least two (2) business days prior to the City Council meeting deadline of 12:00 p.m., Thursday, March 31. After this deadline, citizens are encouraged to attend the public hearing to present comments.
Related information is available for public inspection in the Planning & Development Office at the J. Reuben Daniel City Hall, 1040 Roanoke Avenue. Any persons, firms, organizations or corporations interested in this matter are urged to attend the meeting.

HYDRANT FLUSHING: The Roanoke Rapids Fire Department will begin flushing hydrants on Monday, April 4. This procedure removes rust and incrustations from the water system and locates valves that may be closed, which would restrict water flow for firefighting purposes. The starting area to be tested is the downtown west side of Roanoke Avenue moving south and east through the City limits. Please check your tap water for discoloration before drinking, bathing or washing clothes. If your water is discolored, turn the cold water tap on until the water runs clear.
