Cultural Resources Leader (Roanoke Canal Museum Trail)

An employee in this position is responsible for directing the full operation of the Roanoke Canal Museum and Trail. Experience in operations and programming, public relations and historical interpretation is preferred. Prefer degree in Museum History or Parks and Recreation, or an combination of education and experience. Minimum of 1-3 years administrative experience preferred; with budgeting, public relations, grant writing and programming experience. Must have experience in working with volunteers and community groups. Must have customer service skills in dealing with staff and community administering and supervising. Excellent benefit package. Position is open until filled.

Sanitation Worker

An employee in this position performs work as a member of a crew led by a Sanitation Equipment Operator in loading and unloading refuse over an established route. Applicant must hold a valid NC Driver’s License. Position is open until filled.

Part-Time Public Works Worker

An employee in this position performs skilled technical and trades work in the maintenance and repair of buildings, grounds, facilities, and equipment. Job duties include but are not limited to grass cutting, leaf collection, street sign maintenance, and other duties necessary in the Public Works Department. Position is open until filled.

Firefighter Applicant Pool

Applications are being accepted to establish an eligibility list (Applicant Pool) from which periodic selections will be made as positions become available.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma (GED)

Preferred NC Firefighter II

Must be able to obtain a North Carolina or Virginia Class B Driver’s License within 90 days of employment

Must be of good character, be in good physical condition and pass a drug test

NOTICE OF CONTINUED PUBLIC HEARING

Notice is hereby given that the Roanoke Rapids City Council at a meeting held on Tuesday, January 5, 2016 voted to continue the public hearing concerning the following item until the Tuesday, January 19, 2016 meeting at 5:15 p.m. at the Lloyd Andrews City Meeting Hall at 700 Jackson Street,. Roanoke Rapids, NC:

1. A rezoning request from Gil Cunningham (applicant and representative of owner of property Carolina Dirt, LLC) to rezone 83.2773+/- acres of property at 395 Wallace Fork Road from B-4 Commercial District-Entertainment Overlay District to I-2 Industrial District. The undeveloped property is located between Wallace Fork Road and Aurelian Springs Road and has been previously used as an outdoor amphitheater/concert venue. Industrial districts are established to accommodate manufacturing, processing, creating, repairing, renovating, painting, cleaning or assembling of goods, merchandise and equipment. As a result of public input, a less intense district may be considered. The City Council may make a final decision on or soon after January 19, 2016 public hearing. Any resident or property owner in the City’s planning jurisdiction may submit written statements concerning this matter. Please include your name and address on all written statements and submit to City Clerk Lisa Vincent at least two (2) business days prior to the City Council meeting deadline of 5:00 p.m., Thursday, January 14. After this deadline, citizens are encouraged to attend the public hearing to present comments.

Notice is hereby given that the Roanoke Rapids Area Planning Board will a public meeting on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. at the Lloyd Andrews City Meeting Hall at 700 Jackson Street to hear the following items:

Consideration of Adoption of Rules of Procedure of the Roanoke Rapids Area Planning Board. In accordance with Land Use Ordinance Section 151-25, the Planning Board may develop rules and regulations governing its procedures and operations not inconsistent with the Land Use Ordinance. These rules and regulations shall be subject to review and approval by the Council, and upon approval, shall become effective for the Planning Board.

Discussion of duties and priorities for 2016 such as plans, goals, objectives relating to the growth, development and redevelopment of the City and the surrounding extraterritorial planning area as well as zoning map and ordinance changes.
