EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES:   

The City of Roanoke Rapids is accepting applications for the following positions:

Recreation Program Supervisor (Aquatic Center - Parks & Recreation)

A candidate in this class plans, coordinates and supervises the Aquatic Center programs and activities.  

A successful candidate will have demonstrated management experience in the aquatics field, strong supervisory skills and ability to motivate a team, and a strong sense of safety with the ability to implement good practices  

Desired Qualifications:  - High school diploma or equivalent. – Graduation from a four year college or university with a degree in recreation administration, physical education or related degree and considerable experience in the recreational programming preferred- Certified in American Red Cross CPR/AED preferred, First Aid & Lifeguarding preferred -3yrs. of lifeguarding experience preferred -Management experience – Must have excellent people service skills - Ability to provide service with integrity -Good verbal and written communication skills.  Must hold a valid Class C North Carolina Driver’s License. Open until filled.

Firefighter Applicant Pool (Roanoke Rapids Fire Department)

An eligibility list is being established from which periodic selections will be made as positions become available.  Desired Qualifications: -Must have a High School Diploma or GED - Preferred NC Firefighter II - Must be able to obtain a North Carolina or Virginia Class B Driver’s License within 90 days of employment -  Must have WorkKeys Silver Certificate (or higher) (Contact Ellen Grant @ Halifax Community College for more information (252) 536-6393) - Must be of good character, be in good physical condition, and pass a drug screen and background check. Police Officer (Roanoke Rapids Police Department)

An employee in this class performs a full range of general law enforcement duties to protect life and property in the City.   Basic Law Enforcement Training is preferred but not required. (Open Until Filled)

PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

Notice is hereby given that the Roanoke Rapids City Council will hold a public hearing Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at 5:15 p.m. in the First Floor Conference Room at the J. Reuben Daniel City Hall & Police Station, 1040 Roanoke Avenue, Roanoke Rapids, NC to hear the following items:

Proposed Amendment to Article X Permissible Uses, Section 151-149 Table of Permitted Uses to change the permitting process from Conditional Uses to Permissible Zoning Uses, expanding uses in zoning districts; Amendment to Section 151-150(g) Accessory Uses to clarify land use numerical category; and Amendment to Article XI: Supplementary Use Regulations to delete redundancy in Section 151-171, add Section 151-176 Short-Term Rentals, and 151-177 Kennels.

Related information is available for public inspection in the Planning and Development office at the J. Reuben Daniel City Hall, 1040 Roanoke Avenue. Any persons, firms, organizations or corporations interested in this matter are urged to attend the meeting.

MUNICIPAL OFFICES CLOSED/TRASH COLLECTION: Municipal offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4, 2019 in observance of Independence Day. Trash collection routes for Thursday will be collected on Wednesday, July 3rd.
