A 20-year-old Scotland Neck man died in a two-vehicle collision on Highway 125 north of Scotland Neck this evening.

The collision, according to Troop R.P. Dennis of the state Highway Patrol, occurred shortly before 8 p.m. near Gallberry Road.

Jonathan S. Flores, of Access Road, was driving a 1995 Mercury Marquis northbound when he crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by Tawanda P. Hill, 43 of Highway 125, Halifax.

Dennis said Flores, who was wearing a seatbelt, was traveling an estimated 65 miles per hour, when the driver's sides of both vehicles collided.

Flores' vehicle took the brunt of the impact causing severe injury which led to his death.

Hill was airlifted to Vidant in Greenville. Her condition was not immediately known.

The collision marks the only fatality reported thus far during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in Halifax and Northampton counties.
