Tierra Marie Burnell, the 27-year-old Halifax woman wanted in the shooting death of Chris Harrison, was apprehended late this afternoon in Elizabeth City.

Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said Burnell had been staying at the Whistling Pines Motel since October 30, three days after the home invasion that led to Harrison's death.

She was booked on charges of murder, accessory before the fact of armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

She was jailed without the opportunity for bond and has a December 4 court date in Halifax,

“Investigative tools led to her apprehension,” Tripp said.

Halifax County detectives Chris Scott and Harold Phillips, state Alcohol Law Enforcement agents, the State Bureau of Investigation as well as the Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office assisted in her capture.

Burnell becomes the second person apprehended in Harrison's death after Jimmel Horton turned himself in late Monday afternoon.

Investigators believe Horton is the man who allegedly shot Harrison in a home invasion that occurred at Harrison's house of Zoo Road South.

Tripp said the sheriff's office is also continuing to investigate the death of Monte Hines, who was shot in the stomach and is believed to be a participant in the home invasion. The sheriff said Hines's wound shows the bullet exited from his back area.

“We're still proceeding forward on Hines,” Tripp said. “We're focusing on Harrison and hoping with persistence to find out what happened with Hines.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-583-1991 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
