Jimell Contrell Horton is scheduled for his first court appearance today after turning himself to the Halifax County Detention Center late Monday afternoon.

Sheriff Wes Tripp said deputies served Horton, 28, of Enfield, warrants for the October 27 murder of Chris Harrison in what is believed to be a home invasion at Harrison's house off Zoo Road South.

Horton, who is being held without the opportunity for bond, faces charges of murder, first-degree burglary, attempted armed robbery and conspiracy to commit armed robbery.

Horton came to the jail by himself, Tripp said.

Tripp, who was in a meeting this morning, could not further elaborate on the surrender.

The sheriff's office continues to look for Tierra Burnell, who investigators have also linked to Harrison's murder.

The sheriff's office continues to investigate the murder of Monte Hines, believed to allegedly be an assailant in the home invasion. He was found dead between Harrison's house and an abandoned house.

Burnell is believed to be in the Garner area.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Burnell, or anyone who has information on the murder of Hines is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 252-583-8201 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
