The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and the Enfield Police Department each filed charges in a shooting which occurred Monday outside Scotland Neck.

The charges by the sheriff’s office deal with the shooting off Wade Road while the charges filed by the police department deal with the subsequent capture and arrests of the three men reportedly involved, one of them who was out on bond following a home invasion in Enfield last month.
Chief Deputy Scott Hall of the sheriff’s office said this morning detectives continue to investigate the shooting which occurred around 6 p.m. He did confirm the target of the initial shooting returned fire, striking the vehicle the three arrested were in. No one was injured.
The men were identified as Keeyona Wilkins, 19, of Enfield, Nathaniel Clark, 25, of Rocky Mount, and Cleveland Ballard III, 31, of Enfield.
Ballard was the man Enfield police charged in the April home invasion.
Enfield police Chief Tyree Davis said the relationship between Ballard and the other men was not clear.
Hall said in a statement Sergeant T. Clark, Corporal P. Moyer and Deputy P. Ward responded to the residence after receiving a call shots were fired from a Nissan Altima.
Davis said in a statement Detective Willie Murphy located the suspect vehicle entering the city limits and conducted a traffic stop in the parking lot of a local convenience store. The driver and backseat passenger fled while Murphy apprehended the front seat passenger.
Murphy spotted a handgun and what Davis described as a user amount of marijuana inside the vehicle.
Officers established a perimeter and Moyer and his dog Bosco tracked the men who fled.
Enfield police Captain Dreher Bozard spotted one of the men running across the parking lot of a business and apprehended him while the third person came back to the scene after he was persuaded by a family member to surrender, Davis taking him into custody.
The sheriff’s office charged the men with assault with a deadly weapon, possession of firearm by felon, assault by pointing a gun, and carrying a concealed weapon.
They received May 31 court dates and $10,00 bonds.
Murphy charged Ballard, who Davis said was identified as the driver, with resisting a public officer and simple possession of marijuana.
Clark was charged with resisting a public officer and Wilkins was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
The men and vehicle were turned over to the sheriff’s office, Davis said in the statement.
