The fund directs a scholarship selection committee to award a full four-year scholarship to cover tuition, room, board, school fees, and books at a recognized four-year accredited college or university located in North Carolina.
This year, each recipient, in addition to the scholarship, will receive additional money to purchase a computer.
The successful candidates have the potential for developing personally and scholastically into a productive future citizen, as the scholarship rules state.
“We’re extremely proud of our two Crawley winners. They are exemplary student leaders who deserve this recognition. These two carry on the tradition of excellence for which Roanoke Rapids High School is known,” said Tammie Williams, Principal.
Mrs. Crawley, who died on April 11, 1998, was a lifelong resident of Littleton and taught music for 28 years at Littleton High School.

Semaj Smith

Semaj Smith is planning to attend the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and major in business administration/entrepreneurship.
Smith, who was team captain on the Roanoke Rapids High School Yellow Jackets basketball team said, “It’s an honor to have all four years of my undergraduate studies fully paid. I’m excited to join the others who have won this in the past.”
Smith, who is the son of April Harvey and Antwan Smith both of Roanoke Rapids, would like to own his own business in the sports field.
In addition to being a National Honor Society member, he is part of the school’s award winning DECA marketing team.
Smith is also a volunteer at Angel’s Closet in Roanoke Rapids.

Meghan Shearin

Meghan Shearin plans to attend Campbell University and major in pharmacy.
She’s currently enrolled in the pharmacy technician curriculum at Roanoke Rapids High School and will sit for her certification exam this summer.
“This is such a great opportunity for me. I’m still in shock. It’s a blessing to me and my family to be awarded this scholarship,” Shearin added.
Shearin who is the daughter of Angie Shearin and Mike Shearin both of Roanoke Rapids, is a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish Honor Society.
She said one of her greatest accomplishments in the community has been her volunteer work at Signature Health Nursing Home, Rainbow Rescue and her work over the summer with a local group home teaching swim lesson to special needs children.
“Congratulations to both students on earning such a prestigious scholarship. Their hard work inside and outside the classroom has paved the way for a bright future. I wish them the best as they transition to the college of their choice,“ said Superintendent Dain Butler.
