A presidential search committee has narrowed its list of candidates to six finalists to choose to be successor of Halifax Community College President Ervin Griffin Sr.
Griffin will be retiring the first of February.

The presidential search committee was formed in the summer, the college said in a statement released today, and each member of the committee was appointed by the current chairperson of the HCC Board of Trustees, Michael Felt.
“The Trustees and I are pleased with the number and experience level of the applicants that have applied to lead our institution,” Felt said.
The search committee received 38 total applications. From those, the committee narrowed the field to six finalists. The finalists have been given to the HCC Board of Trustees for the completion of the interview process.
Throughout the process, HCC and the search committee have been aided by the North Carolina Association of Community College Trustees.
The organization was established to provide trustees an organization for furtherance of the aims, goals and development of North Carolina community colleges, the college said.
Led by Dr. Donny Hunter, HCC’s presidential search is one of many that NCACCT has successfully completed.
Each of the six candidates will be brought to the Roanoke Valley for a day-long interview process.
The interview schedule was based on availability, rather than any type of ranking order. The first candidate will arrive on November 14, and the interviews will run until November 22.
The six finalists, the college said, bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the process.
