RRPD blotter: July 29-August 4, 2016

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:

Friday July 29, 2016
At approximately 1:45 p.m., Officer Natara Velazquez responded to a larceny call at Walmart. Loss prevention reported Kwanzie Rashad Harvey, 21, of Roanoke Rapids, concealed items. Velazquez arrested and charged Harvey with shoplifting-concealment of goods. He was also served an outstanding order for arrest. He received a $1,000 bond and August 18 court date.
Master Officer Gerald Morris and officers Greg Colson and Patrick Smith assisted.
At approximately 9 p.m., Officer Alex Green conducted a traffic stop for a violation near the intersection of highways 158 and 48.
Green determined the driver Philip Durwin Kidd Jr., 32, of Roanoke Rapids, was impaired.
Kidd, who received a $750 bond and September 12 court date, was arrested and charged with driving while impaired.
Master Officer Adam Salmon assisted.
Saturday July 30, 2016
At approximately 1:15 a.m., Lieutenant Jeff Baggett conducted a traffic stop for a violation at Seventh and Charlotte streets.
The driver, James Jarel Mason, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, was found to be in possession of narcotics and paraphernalia.
Mason was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell and deliver schedule VI, possession of schedule VI and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He received a $15,000 bond and August 17 court date.
Green assisted.
At approximately 3:30 a.m., officers Jeff Mason and Dustin Newsome responded to a disturbance call at New Dixie Mart on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.
Officers encountered Derrick Ladane Garner, 33, of Weldon, who store staff pointed out as one of the people involved in the disturbance.
Garner became unruly,
Mason arrested and charged Garner with resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.
During the processing Garner assaulted Mason and he was additionally charged with assault on a government official.
Garner received a $1,500 bond and September 2 court date.
At approximately 9:15 a.m., Velazquez responded to a trespassing call at McDonald’s on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.
Staff told Velazquez Ronald Anthony McDonald, 65, of Littleton, had been asked to not to come on the property several times earlier in the week.
Velazquez arrested and charged McDonald, who was scheduled to appear in court today, with trespassing.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., Velazquez responded to a larceny call at Walmart.
Loss prevention reported Brandy Dawn Wilson, 36, of Roanoke Rapids, took items.
Velazquez arrested and charged Wilson with larceny and possession of stolen goods.
She received a $500 bond and August 26 court date.
At approximately 8 p.m., Newsome responded to a larceny call at Food Lion on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway.
Store staff reported Zollie Randall Lynch, 54, of Hollister, took items.
Newsome arrested and charged Lynch with larceny and possession of stolen goods.
He received a $750 bond and September 2 court date.

Sunday July 31, 2016
At approximately 2:30 p.m., Green was investigating suspicious activity on the parking lot of Fairfax Motel.
Ronnie Washington, 33, of Roanoke Rapids, attempted to flee from the officers but was stopped a short distance away.
Washington was found in possession of narcotics and paraphernalia. He was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver schedule VI, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting/delaying/obstructing an officer.
He received a $12,000 bond and August 17 court date.
Baggett, Sergeant Mike Moseley and Mason assisted.
At approximately 7:15 p.m., Officer Jamie Hardy responded to a possible overdose call in the 400 block of Franklin Street.
Hardy found narcotics and paraphernalia. Kyle Nicholas Topping, 21, Ethan Hand Lee, 25, of Roanoke Rapids, and David Eric Anderson, 25, of Norfolk, were arrested and charged with possession of schedule I and possession of drug paraphernalia.
They received $1,000 bonds and August 10 court dates.
Sergeant Daniel Jenkins assisted.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges could be brought.
Tuesday August 2, 2016
At approximately 1:15 a.m., Mason responded to a trespassing call in the 1700 block of Powell Street.
Mason located Anthony Devon Mills, 32, of Roanoke Rapids, in the area.
During the interaction it was discovered Mills had an outstanding order for arrest.
He was arrested, received a $2,000 bond and August 17 court date.
Green assisted.
At approximately 1 p.m., Lieutenant Bruce Norton was on foot patrol in the 900 block of Roanoke Avenue when he located Tajma D. Ussery, 18, of Roanoke Rapids, who had numerous outstanding warrants.
When Ussery was taken into custody he was found in possession of a concealed gun.
Ussery was served with warrants from the police department for attempted breaking/entering and carrying a concealed weapon.
For the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office he was charged with three counts of kidnapping; three counts assault with a deadly weapon; breaking/entering, and attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.
Ussery received $503,500 bond and September 21 court date.
The attempted breaking/entering charges stem from an investigation by Investigator Jeff Davis into the June 9 attempted breaking/entering of P&A Pawn.
Four people attempted to break into the business but never gained access.
The investigation is ongoing and more charges are pending
Lieutenant Charles Vaught, Investigator Chris Babb and Officer Matt Hunsucker assisted.
At approximately 5:30 p.m., Investigator Gorton Williams received information on the location of Ginger Daugherty Tripp, 36, of Roanoke Rapids, who had outstanding warrants for larceny. Williams and Norton located Tripp in the 100 block of Premier Boulevard and took her into custody. She received a $1,000 bond and August 19 court date.
At approximately 9:30 p.m.,Master Officer Gerald Morris conducted a traffic stop for a violation in the 100 block of Washington Street.
Morris found the driver, Bryan Derek Clements, 27, of Gaston, in possession of a concealed gun.
Clements was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed gun and failure to stop for red light. He received a $500 bond and September 23 court date.
Officer Patrick Smith assisted.
Wednesday August 3, 2016
At approximately 7 p.m, Velazquez responded to a single-vehicle collision in the 300 block of Franklin Street.
The driver, Danny Stephen Bryant Jr., 24, of Roanoke Rapids, was transported to the hospital for treatment by Halifax County EMS.
Velazquez found Bryant was impaired and cited him for driving while impaired.
He received a September 12 court date.
Morris, officers Chris Biggerstaff, Hunsucker and Smith assisted.
Thursday August 4, 2016
At approximately 3:30 p.m., Master Officer Jonathan Benthall responded to a larceny call at Walmart.
Loss prevention reported Tevin Roshaun High, 22, of Gaston, took items from the store.
High was charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods. He was received a $500 bond and August 19 court date.
Norton and Vaught assisted.
