Enfield police Chief Tyree Davis doesn’t attribute the seizure of nearly a pound of marijuana to Lucky’s luck.

He attributes it to the training his department’s new police dog received before hitting the streets.
Lucky, who is handled by Corporal Ethan Williams, made the strike shortly before midnight Sunday, his first task since being certified and graduating Ventosa Kennels in Scotland Neck.
“We’re excited to have a dog to be able to locate almost a pound of marijuana on his first day,” Davis said. “It’s a great thing and let’s us know good things are on the way for being able to have a canine at our disposal. It reflects highly of the training done at Ventosa.”

The seizure came after the police department executed a search warrant on Freedom Street, which was based on citizen complaints and a month-long investigation by Detective Willie Murphy and Captain Dreher Bozard, Davis said in a statement.
During a search of the residence and a vehicle, the 392 grams of marijuana was located by officers with assistance from Williams and Lucky.
Murphy charged Vernel Jermaine Fenner, 32, with with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana; felony maintaining a vehicle or dwelling place for a controlled substance, felony possession of marijuana, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia.
Fenner has an August 17 court date.
Williams and Lucky received two months of training in a variety of fields — officer protection, narcotics and tracking.
Davis said he has contacted other agencies to let them know of Lucky’s availability.
