Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp said the state Administrative Office of the Courts is paying for transportation of jurors to and from Halifax. AOC has rented two 15-passenger vans, which his staff will drive. Tripp said AOC is also paying for the meals of the jurors.
Horton was charged in the 2013 murders of Chris Harrison and Monte Hines.
The mistrial in question did not mean Horton could walk free because it involved a conflict of interest between the attorney representing Horton and his law partner who was representing a person the state planned to call as a witness in the case.
This past March, investigation by the sheriff’s office uncovered jury tampering in Horton’s original murder trial.
